The Family Cafe
After two years spent working on our residential project, we thought we’d learned everything there was to know about the special needs landscape in Florida. Then we showed up as exhibitors at The Family Cafe, the largest statewide cross-disability event in the nation, and…wow!
Via the countless people who came by our table and the fascinating presentations, we learned new things about funding sources, legislation, day programming options, and much, much more.
The biggest takeaway: Housing is front of mind for many. We spoke to families in all different situations, from aging parents who don’t know what will happen when they can no longer care for their loved ones, to parents of younger children who are worried about the future, to those who’ve tried placements that haven’t been right for them. It’s clear that the need is great, and we are excited to be part of a solution.
Welcome to the 28th annual Family Cafe!
Our very own Will Torres and Isabella Howerton, educating visitors about the services side of One House.
Hanging out with fellow exhibitors, Jim and Michael Sayih from Special Compass, an amazing local organization that helps children and families with disabilities navigate life through education, sports, and housing, independently through inclusion.
Taking notes!
